ENTERTAINMENTS.

EVERYBODY'S ;LAST NIGHT OP ELIZABETH RISDOX TN "THE MOTHER" OP DARTMOOR/' To-night will he positively the last opportunity to see the splendid London film feature, "The Mother of Dartmoor," which thoroughly entertained and delighted a big attendance at Kverybody's last evening. Elizabeth .Risdon lakes the leading part i n this line story of mother love which will rank with the best pictures screened at this popular theatre. No person who can appreciate a drama of real heart interest without any sensationalism should miss this opportunity.

TO-MORROW—"RASPUTIN, THE BLACK MONK" The remarkable World film super-fea-ture, "Rasputin, the-Black Monk," which has created a. remarkable sensation throughout the civilised world will commence its local season at Everybody's to-morrow. It is a curiously fascinating blend of the spectacular and the beautiful, for in "Rasputin," a \Vorld seven-part drama, the scenes of Russia's courts take the interest vividly to the part that the Eurasian nation is playing in the war news of the day- "Rasputin," as a story* only, is one of uncommon intensity. It concerns the rise to greatness of a scoundrelly character who has chosen to go his ways as a monk. Accordingly he lias, as a religious man, opportunities of which he is quick to take advantage, but not as a man of God; rather as an ambitious sinner. He comes in contact with women, and his evil mind and a devilish fascination make his path a rosy one, leading direct to the footstool of the Czar. Not eontent with this, he practises more evil and goes even further, till at last comes the inevitable fall. The film is a historical play of much merit, and follows to a practical and wholly logical conclusion the many old proverbs concerning the powers of princes, for the man went as far as a. prince, and indeed, he fell as far. With this central theme the entertainment offered includes topical films of abounding interest, and a rare comedy. THE EMPIRE.

. FRANCIS X- BUSHMAN & BEVERLY BAYNE IN "THE ADOPTED SON." The first screening of the Metro superfeature, "The Adopted Son/"' drew a big attendance to the Empire last evening. The very popular artists, Francis X, Bushman and Beverly Bayne, are the stars of and se73om if ever have they done better work—especially is this true of Bushman, who, throughout tho picture, is convincing and vigorous portraying tho diameter of Jim Purdue to the life. The picture is in six parts and it is no exaggeration to say that not a foot of it is needless or wasted —action i* the key-note, sustained and always interesting, without being forced or unreal. The story is the chief element in "The Adopted Son-" Stars, much beautiful scenery, clear photography, splendid settings, etc-, all have their place—but it is the story that makes this picture stand out as one of the best we have had for some, time. Amongst the supporting pictures there is the seventh episode of the popular circus serial "Peg O' the Ring."
