DOUBLY DISAPPOINTING. AMERICAN OPINION London, April 14. The New York World says the Irish plan for self-government is doubly disappointing because the old lines of cleavage are emphasised. A divided and warring Ireland is a menace not only to Britain and France, but to the United States. Having failed to adjust their own dispute, Irishmen must accept such action as tlio British Parliament takes.
A CARDINAL'S VIEWS. PASSIVE RESISTANCE ADVOCATED. London, April 15. Cardinal Logue, speaking at Dungannoil, said proposals vitally affecting all Eoction3 of Ireland were being liurricd through the British Parliament with unseemly haste. The Government was making the gravest blunder, which would lead to the utmost- disorder and chaos, and be met by strenuous passive resistance. Cardinal Logue deprecated organised physical resistance.
A SERIOUS SITUATION. London, April 15. It is generally understood that the Government is rapidly framing new Home Rule measures. The Daily News says that a serious Cabinet situation developed during the week-end owing to Labor opposition to [Cabinet conscription, which may lead to itlie resignation of the Labor Ministers.
