A cable has been received in Waverley stating that Sergt. Menziesh had been killed in action. - The Press Bureau announces that Major-General F. H. Sykes has been appointed Chief of the Air Staff on the resignation of General Trenchard. Mrs. Fred. Newell received a cable yesterday that her son Darcy, who was previously reported seriously ill, ia now reported dangerously ill. Mb. A. Crooke, S.M., who has been on a few days' holiday leave, has returned to New Plymouth, and will resume his duties at the civil sittings of the Magistrate's Court this morning. A correspondent writes stating that it was Sergeant Rowe, not Private Rowe (as stated by our correspondent), of Eltham, who was recently killed in action. He adds that four brothers Eowe joined the forces from Eltham. At last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council a resolution of congratulation to Mr. -T. E. Wilson—nn ex-Mayor of the borough—upon his elevation to the Magisterial Bench, was passed on the motion of the Mayor and Or. Griffiths. Captain J. G. Coates, M.P., has again been wounded. The Minister of Defence made this announcement in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, but stated also that he was glad to say that the wound was slight and that Captain Poatea was r«inainiwr with his unit
