'A protest against alleged invidious distinctions- in recent n ward 9 of the Order cf ihii British Bmpire was made 'by a member at io-day's meeting of the executive oi tihe-Ganterbury Patriotic Fund. He particularly complained of the omission oi the secretarj' of the Canterbury f Patriotic Fund and the town clerk, both; ai wham had done yeoman patriotie work. He asked for an expression of opinion from the Mayor (Mr. H. Holland). Mr Holland said he could not give any information at all. He did not think it Tight to ask him such a question He was not in the confidence of the Governor-General. He had never tried directly or indirectly to exercise any influence in the matter.
