Waif, introducing the Supply Bill, said lie proposed to submit early "in the new financial year the Government's new taxation proposals. / Mr. Cook, outlining the policy of the Ministry, said that the Oovernment proposed to establish a Bureau of Commerce and Industry in charge of business men who would act wit'll the representatives of the various industries. Delects in the industrial machinery would be removed. Provisions would be made for enlisting for home defence, persons between 21 and 50, ineligible for service abroad. The Income-Tax Bill would be amended, constituting the employer the collecting agent for the department, when the employee fails to pay, with power lo deduet from tlie employee's wages. In the House of Representatives Mr. Cook introduced a Supply Bill for five millions. He stated that the revenue for nine months had been £1,"291,090 below th» estimate, but the expenditure was £2,017,000 below the estimate, therefore actually they were in a better position than expected to the extent of £750,000.
