(From Our Own Correspondent). Eltham, April 8. Amounts in connection witk the patriotic appeal are coming to hand very freely. The latest to he recorded is that collected by the Bridge street south list canvassers, Miss P. Peebles and Mr. C. A Wilk'inson, M.P., and totals £81! Is. Mr. T. A. Corbett has donated a four-year-old trotting mare to the fund, whilst Mr. V.'alti'i- Clarry, our only butcher, has placed, hiA.shop the whole of one Saturday at the disposal of the committee. Reports received- from Te Roti and elsewhere are not very encouragin n \ Two soldiers, Corporal Owen and ' vate Dakers, were farewelled at Mr. Death's Barn, Fra'scr Road, on Thursday evening. Mr. A. L. Campbell mado the presentations—pipes to Owen and watch to Dakcrs—and made a neat and appropriate spcecli in handing the gifts ( the recipients. Miss Dale, who is i ing quite a name for uersclf in this direction, presided at the piano for the dance, which proved most enjoyable, in a measure attributable to the energetic manner in wb"'' ,f - Sid Death carried out the duties of M.O.
