i iie death occurred on Friday morning of Mr. I), Stewart, inspector of Schools in the Wangauui education district, reports the Chronicle. Mr. Stewart; ,was a i;.t!ive' of Ifiinodin. He received: his training for the teaching profession at Dunedin Normal Training College, and liis first appointment was headmaster of the Loburn School, where he was for six and a half years. lie then became first assistant at Oamaru for two years, followed by a term of three years as headmaster at 1/untl-oon. lie was finally appointed headmaster at the model school in connection with the Dunedin Trainiiig College. alul held the position for live years. In It'll Mr. Stewart was appointed assistant inspector and organiser of, school work in the Wanganm Kducation Board district, a position he held until two years ago. when the inspectors were placed under the control of th Central Department. . Mr. .Stewart a man of very high qualities, and a specialist in the organisation of couur schools. Mr. Stewart left for Wavorlev last Monday, Although he was in ill-health on the following day, he proceeded with his work and visited two ■chools. On Wednesday lie became worse, and returned to Vi'auganui, his death occurring at 3.45 on Friday morning, following an operation. Mr. Stewart was but 4b years of ap.c. He leaves a widov. and seven children.
