MILITARY' SERVICE BOARD.

APPEALS AT HAWERA. The sitting of the Military Service ■Board was resumed at. Ilawera on Tuesday. The following appeals, having been withdrawn, were formally dismissed: John McKay, farm laborer, Auroa; Wm. K. Le Fleming, farmer Otakelio; and J. A..Mclienna, on, behalf, of Sergeant Frank McKenna, on active service. Win. F. C. Comyns, farm assistant. Te Kiri, was medically boarded C2. • ■- REIIEARINGS. Alfred B. Walker, dairy farmer, Ohangai, applied for a re-examination. He was farming 171 acres, on which he was milking by machine 60 cows with the assistance of his wife only. Of his six brothers four were single, and these had all been Called up. Two were in the, fighting line, one was turned down, and ono was a confirmed invalid. The case was adjourned till next .sitting. John Martin Bolger, dairy farmer, Kaponga, was originally classed. C2, but upon re-examination was classed CI. — Decision was reserved sine die.

Wm. Lepper, sheep farmer, Whangamomona, applied for leave until one of his brothers, now at the front, came back to take charge of the farm. Hearing, adjohrned till the June sitting. C. A, Saward, sheep farmer, Whangamomona. Decision was reserved sine die.

J. G Craig, ■ chemist, Manaia, applied for adjournment till next sitting in order to dispose of his business. Leave was granted accordingly. Leonard K. Sheardr farmer, Hawera. Appellant owned a freehold of 50 acres, on which he milked 28 cows by machine. He had no labor on the farm, and his mother, aged 74, lived with him. He had two brothers with the Expeditionary Forces and two married. Decision was reserved sine die.

Normnn Burke, .farmer, Stratford, was gpnted leave till July 30. , Wm. R. Spooner, clerk and accountant, Patea. This was an employer's appeal. Leave granted till August 27.

Ernest, Thompson, boner, Patea. This was also an employer's appeal. W. D. Powdrcll, chairman of directors of the 'Patea Freezing Company, said that if they rtow lost Thomp.?r,n he questioned if they could get an eflicient boner in New Zealand to take his place. Decision was reserved sine die.

David lan Thompson, foreman at the works, applied foy extension of time. 'Leave granted till July 2. Wm. Shanalian, farmer, Lowgarth. was farming 121) acres, which lie and his brother acquired in 1913. The brother had been culled tip and was now in France. Appellant had enlisted early in the war, but was not accepted, having been classed D. Upon a recent medical re-examin-ation appellant was classed CI. The Board reserved its decision sine die. Geo. Ed. Wheeler, carter, Hawera, appealed on the ground that he was not a reservist, not being a New Zealander.

The appeal was allowed, appellant being an Australian. Geo T. Marshall, grader hand, Patea, previously classed C2, and now reclassed CI. appealed for an extension of tim». He wasymarried in June of 1915, and had two children. .

Lc-avc was granted till July 2 Reg. Gi Hamerton, farni manager, Kakaramea, Appellant was drawn in the second ballot and was lcassed "D." On medical advice he came out of the bush and took the management of Mr. Blake'a farm at Kakaramea. Ho had a man assisting, but he could not undertake the management. He was also -looking after his mother's farm, and his personal supervision of this was essential to its successful financing. He was married in 1917. Decision was reserved sine die.

Ernest Robertson; farmer, Stratford, and Fred D. Hall, farmer, Mangatoki, applied for extension of time. The former was given leave till July 23. and the latter to July 2. ■ Harold E. Hatcher, contractor,.Hawera, was granted leave till 1 May 7. In the cases, of Sydney H. Hughes, farmer, Waverley, and Alfred J, Hodges, farmer, Ngatoro, Inglewood, decision was reserved sine die. '

The appeals of David R. Hight, farmer, Kolniratahi; Thomas Hogan, farm laborer, Ohangai; and Eri. L. Robson, chscsemaker, Tuna, Stratford, having been withdrawn, were formally dismissed. There being no apnearance of Wm. A. Davison, baker, Otakeho; Wm. K. Bigham, motor mechanic, Hawera; Richard Corbett Carroll, laborer, Hawera; Hugh C. Hughes, farmer, Waverley; or .Tames Naughton, daily farmer. Mn.tsnu, the appeal in each case was dismissed. John Smith Badger, fiirmer. MatemateThis was an appeal by the brother, Wilfred F. Badger, who said that lie and his appellant brother owned 18S0 a,'res of land at Matomateonga. It would be almost impossible to get anyone to go so far back (18 miles from Eltham) to replace his brother who was farming the place. Witness was under orders, in Class A of the Second Division, to go into camp on May 29. If his brother went into camp he (witness) would have to-appeal, a-- one of them must 1m on the farm.
