The people had submitted to food restrictions in a marvellous manlier, and their health had not suffered, but was better than before the war- , The restrictions had reduced doctors' work, owing; to the decrease. The rheumatism death rate, which was 13.0 in 1013, was down to 12.2 in 1917. COLD STORAGE PROBLEMS. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH BOARD. Received March 24, 5.5 p.m. London, March 23. Hon. Sir Tlios. Mackenzie, High Commissioner, interviewed the Minister of Education, who agreed to favorably consider the appointment of representatives of Australia and New Zealand to the Scientific Research Board which is about to be created to investigate cold storage problems. It is understood'the Government will provide a million sterling for research work. REDRESS FOR ILL-TREATMENT OF PRISONERS. Renter Service. Received March 24, 5.5 p.m. London, March 23. In the House of Commons, Mr. J. F. Hope slated that the Government was determined to ensure redress for British prisoners improperly treated in Germany. He also stated that it had been thought desirable to transfer a number of German officers from.the west of England to the east coast. This is not by way of reprisal or punishment, but im account of the climate of the Kent and Essex coast probably being better suited for a number of prison camps. STRAIGHT TALK TO MIXERS.
