The Depart- - ment's idea of elticieney wus to spread a job over two days, The chamber's idea was to -get things done promptly. Instead <»f assisting, the railways were strangling the country's commerce. Iu reply, Mr. Hilcv promised to depute Mr. Buxton, chief traffic manager, to make investigations into the working of the LyUdton-Cliristchurch line, and alsc to depute another senior official to gS into details with Christchurch busineai men.
