IRISH NATIONAL CONCERT.

The annual St. Patrick's Day eon> oort which wan held last night in th< Holland Hall, New Plymouth, passed ofl in a manner which entitled it to be classed as an unqualified success, The hall was appropriately decorated, and the accommodation proved insufficient for those who attended, a number of people being unable to gain admittance. The programme, which was a specially characteristic one, was thoroughly enjoyed, several of the item* being encored. The instrumental items included pianoforte solos by Miss K. Bennett, pianoforte trios by Misses Allen and Whittle (2), and a selection of Irish aira by Misses 15. Hooper, E. Mannix and Jones (violins) and Miss Mannix (piano). Several dances were given, which were greatly enjoyed,-the performers being Miss C. Callaghan, Messrs Barry and Fahey, the latter giving a sailor's hornpipe, and Mr. Barry an Irish jig. Recitations were given by Miss 11. Wright, and vocal solos by Mrs. Hamlin, Misses J. Bennett, G. Hurley; E. Whittle, Walsh and R. Fieldes, Messrs J. P. Whelan and B. J. Hamlin. Mr. Fahey contributed a humorous song. 'The choir of St. Joseph's gave a solo and chorus, "Eileen Alanliali," the soloist being Miss Hurley. Aa a finale' the item "God Save Irclaud" was given, the soloists being Messrs Trehey and Whittle. The accompaniments were shared by the Misses Mannix (2), Whittle (2), Bennett, Radford, Henderson, Allan aud Jones. At the conclusion of the concert a dance was held in the hall, to which a large number remained.
