His Majesty the King received Comnmndor Worsley and Lieut. Stenhouse, members of Sir JCrnest Klnwklelon's Antarctic expedition, and conferred oa them tho .Distinguished Service Order. The death of Mr. Dave Sullivan, licensee of the Pier Hotel, Wellington, tf'ol: place on Friday last, after a short illness. Mr. Sullivan was well known in Taranaki, he having at one time occu.'•d the JCgmont Hotel, Ilawera.
Mr. J. ]•'. Silby, of Kiverlea, has received word by cable that his son, Sergeant P. R. Silby, of tho instruction stall', Anzac training school, has just been admitted to hospital in France, suffering from fracture of the left leg An Kltham soldier whose name appears in a recent casualty list is Private H. H. Hornblow. His name appears amongst tho serious cases. Private Hornblow has many friends in Eltham, who all hope for his rapid and complete . recovery, says the Argus. AV last night's meeting of the tfew Plymouth Borough Council, on the motions of Crs. Collis and Browne, a resolution of congratulation to the Mayore.'<°. in respect to the honor conferred upon her was carried with hearty acclamation. The mover and seconder referred appreciatively to the work done ?< r. and tho ungrudging services rendered to patriotic purposes by Mrs. Burgess since the outbreak of war, and spoke with satisfaction of tho recognition of those services. The Mayor suitably rented.
The list of to the Order of the British Empire includes the name of Mr R. H. Nolan, of Hawera, who has been made a Commander of the Order. Appointments to this order have been made solely in recognition of services in connection with the war. Mr Nolan, who was in Lohdon when the war broke out, has since been indefatigable in his efforts on behalf of the New Zealand War Contingents' Association, of which he is honorary secretary. The honor !ms been worthily bestowed. With the approval of lung. George, the King of the Belgians has conferred decorations upon a number of New Zealanders. At the bead of the list is the name of an Oamarn boy, Corporal V. J. Tempero, who stands alone in receiving from King Albert the decoration of Chevalier de L'Ordre de Leopold 11. The personal distinction; Chevalier, ranks with the \ British knighthood. Corporal Frank Justice Tempero is a son of Mr. L. H. Tempero, of Oamarn. Ho left with the D. Company, 28th Reinforcements, as sergeant, but was subsequently reduced to the rank of corporal as is the custom. On several occasions in France lite was acting sergeant. Mr. Tempero knows nothing of the services for which Corporal Tempero received bis honor. Corporal Tempero is a nephew of Mussrs George Tempero, of New Plymouth, and A. T. Tempero, of Midlsirst.
