HARBOR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

T)ib monthly meeting oi the Now Plymouth Harbor Board was held on Friday, there being present: Messrs Newton King (chairman), C. 15. Bellringer, E. Doekrill, J. MeCluggage. •D. J. Hughes, C. McOuinness. E. Maxwell, and C. A. Wilkinson, MP.

HARBORMASTER'S REPORT. The harbormaster (Captain Waller) reported that during the month 22 vessels had entered and left the port, having an aggregate tonnage of 18,174 tuns. The imports amounted to G548 tons and the export* to 751 ton*.

DREDGING OPERATIONS. The superintendent of works (Mr. F. Henderson) reported that the Paritutu dredged on 18 days, the net time being 165 hours, during which ] 0,209 tons of spoil had been removed as follows: From the iifth outer channel cut with the buckets 20 loads in 80 hours; from the third fairway cut, with pump and buckets, 26 loads in 76 hours; and from the outer basin, two loads in nine hours. Dredging in the outer channel was completed on February 15, and work was commenced at the' outer basin on February 18. Four days' work were lost through bad weather; one day was occupied in repairing and coaling, and one day in shipping moorings. The Thomas King worked on.nine days and removed 69 loads of spoil equalling 5520 tons. The dredge was laid up for 13 days for annual Inspection, repairs to one of the boiierp, and the fitting of new pipe castings for the sand pump.

GENERAL. The Harbor Boards' Association wrotu notifying that it had been decided to hold a conference in Wellington about the end of July.

The chairman and Mr. Maxwell were appointed representatives to the conference.

Mr, King stated that one important question that would be discussed would be the matter of wharfage on Government coal, on which at present no dues were paid- The question of the election of harbor boards would also be considered, a remit having been received urging that the election of all the members of the boards should take place on the same day, instead of, as at present, the borough representatives being elected at a different time from the country I representatives.

Accounts amounting to £ISBO were passed for payment.
