STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent) [All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. JI. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receiie prompt attention.]
.Stratford, March 10. At the S.M. Court yesterday, before 'Mr- W. K. Haseidtn,- judgment lor plaintill' was given in the defended ease A. J. Duvey (Mr. King) v. R- ti. Hanterton (Mr. Fookes), a claim for £l-1 for damages to a gig. * The adjourned ease brought against P. C. Wright for Ashing without a license was heard. Mr. Coleman represented Wright, and pleaded guilty. He stated that Wright had taken out licenses during the past nine years, but omitted to do so this season. The S.M. inflicted a, fine of £2 with costs.
In the ease of Charles Murphy, charged with having changed his name to O'Brien, it was admitted that he had tried to enlist, and had two brothers at the front. A conviction .was recorded and defendant discharged. Mr. Fookes appeared for Murphy. Mr. R. Dingle, chairman of directors, presided at the meeting of the Stratford Dairy Company suppliers held at the company's office to-day, when the resolutions carried at a previous meeting amending the articles of association were confirmed-
Private 'L. J. Caskey, second son of Mrs. H. Katwright, Stratford, is being invalided home. He left with the 16th Reinforcements and was gassed over 12 months ago. There were four sons at the front, a very creditable record. Apart from the fact that the funds secured will go to the Red Triangle Day, the merits of the performers assisting at the Town Hall concert and dance next Thursday warrant a big audience. The entertainment marks the occasion of the opening of the new cheese factory in connection with the Stratford Dairy' Co., and suppliers arc making the most of it.
Easter is close at hand, and one wonders what to get for suitable gifts. There is no need to worrv. You can present your soldier with the Uean haircutter, the young lady with a bangle or wristlet watch, the maid with a book, and tho student with a fountain pen. The fretful child will fret no more with a toy, and tired mother will be pleased with some of the Doulton ware, and father will forget to growl if you purchase tobacco, pipes, or cigars from C. E. •Tames, the man for the multitude.* '
