At Douglas, on Monday, 11th instant, there was a good yarding, but the quality throughout was not up to previous yardings, consequently competition was hard. 2, 4 and 0-tooth ewes made 23s Id to 2Cs 3d; forward wethers 273 0d; f.f.m. owes up to 21s; f.m. ewes 10s to 14s lOd; rams 2% to i*k guineas; fat 'cows £lO 14s to £ll 10s, forward cows £9 to £9 13s; store cows £5 14s to £7 17s Cd; bulls £9 10s to £l4 0s; 18-mouth steers £6 17s to £7 Is.
At Stratford, on Tuesday, 12th, I liad a full yarding of both sheep and cattle, nil yarding accommodation being well taxed. Competition on sheep was dull, but on cattle was good. The working bullocks advertised on account of the late J. Pawsou were a fine lot, and attracted considerable attention. Two teams of six bullocks with dray, yokes and gear, made £lllO and £125, and «■ l> alr of bullocks made £47. I'ttt cows sold <at from £ll to £l3 IDs, and £l6 12s (id for a particularly flue cow. ADDINGTON. At the Addington market there were larger entries of stock in almost all departments, but the attendance was not quite so numerous as last week. There was a Arm sale for all useful classes of store sheep, but the demand was not keen for backward sorts. The yarding included drafts from tho North Island and Marlborough. Fat lambs wejo very Arm, exporters' prices averaging S%d per lb over all. There was also a good salo for fat cattle, and prices were generally above the export level, only a few head boiug securod by freezing woks buyers. A good sale of a moderate class of store cattle took placo. Fat pigs sold well, but stores fore easier on account of the large entrj. Store sheep.—Two-tooth ewes sold at flora 30s to 40s 9d; 2 and 4-tooth ev.es to 31s Od; 4 and 0-tooth ewes 34s 3d; 0 and 8-tooth ewes 24s 9d to 345; f.ra. ewes 335; two and four-tooth wethers 30s 9d; owe. lambs 20s to 2(is Od; mixed sex larabs 13s to 24s 7d; wether lambs 10s 3d to 20s 9d; fat lauibs extra prime to 33s 3d; prime 27s to 30s Gd; medium 24s Gd to 26s 6d; lighter 22s Id to 245. Fat sheep.—Extra prime wethers sold to 43s 3d; prime wethers 35s Od to 395: lighter, wethers 27s Od to 31s; merino wethers 22s to 20s 4d; extra prime ewes to 38s lOd; prime ewes 33s lOd to 3"s 3d; medium owes 29s 6d to 32s 6d; lighter ewes 23s lOd to 295. BURNSIDS. At Burnside market 185 cattle were peii:r>d, a fair proportion being prime heavy weight heifers and cows, with a few pens of prime bullocks. 'Last weaf-fi wees were maintained throughout.
Sheep.—276B were penned, with a fair proportion of extra prime heavy wethers and. ewes, lor which demand was keen at late rates. Mediant weights also sold for late values. Liektcr sorts were taken by graaiers. Lambs.—l2s7 were penned, Tho quality was good, with fair pens of very prime. Com petition by freezing buyers was keen, and a clearance was effected at late rates.
Pigs.—A iiit'diuui yarding sold at late high rates.
