THE EMPIRE. BUSHMAN—BAYNE DOUBLE a SEVE.,-ACT METRO TRIUMPH. "j-iiEIR COMPACT."
There are surprises and thrills galore iu the pretty Metro picture "Their Compact," which opened season at the head of a brightly interesting bill at (lip Empire The-?.* 'last night. "Their Compact" gives many a fine opportunity to the two popular artists, Beverley Payne and Francis X. Bushman, who take the big parts in fine style. The scenes of this drama make some vivid contrasts, for the desert pictures and th> visions of rough milling villages make a wonderful comparison with th< brilliant colors which surround the actor* in the night life of a great city. The plot concerns a woman and the man she has deceived. James Moore has been betrayed, and to forget the woman he goes away. He meets another girl, and his great friend has married the girl Moore is trying to forget. This friend goes away, and, not knowing of their previous relationship, leave* his wife' in Moore's care. This produces a serious complication, but in the end the tangle is resolved to everybody's satisfaction. The other pictures are in good variety, including a picture in which the audience is shown in screen form the current topics of the week. An added attraction to the \ programme is the second episode of the big circus dnma, ''Peg 0' the .King."
MATKEE TO-MORROW.. A special matinee programme will be scrrened to-morrow afternoon when the chief attraction will be "Peg 0' the Ring," a Fox comedy "A Domestic Hound," and a Keystone comedy. The other pictures will include "Tho Topical Weekly," and a vaudeville act.
EVERYBODY'S. A SPLENDID VITAGRAPH FEATURE "FOR FRANCE." A rollicking and romantic war story is the best of the combination of good things that were shown for the firsttime last night at Everybody's. The film which goes by the inspiring title of "For Fr.-.nce" concerns the doings of a certain German officer who gets a young French girl into his power. He meets his punishment in a speedy and adequate, manner, but before the final scene is shown there are many developments of ft highly sensational and dramatic ?'ort. including many actual scenes ot the 'battlefield. Some particularly realistic, and exciting events happen when the flying machines are brought int<\ action, and throughout the total length of the film there is never a dull moment. iTh.'-re is a worthy supporting list, including "The? Gaumont Graphic," A Keystone comedy "Her Rise and Tumble," and a fine scenic study "Along tho Rio Grande." To-night will be the final screening of this selection.
TO-MORROW. MADGE EVANS TN "THE LITTLE DUCHESS.'' The attraction for to-morrow will be llio appearance of sweet little Mndge Evans in a World film play, "The Little Duchess," and the 19th episode of "The Iron Claw.''
