POULTRY INDUSTRY.

LECTURE OX BREEDING. At the Soldiers' Clr.b last night 'Mr. A. 1?. Salisbury, Government Poultry Instructor, addressed a gathering of ladies and gentlemen interested in poultry industry. Mr. A. T. Moore presided. Mr. Salisbury, after referring to the efforts of local poultry-keepers to maintain the industry under very trying circumstances, said Taranaki was one of the most successful poultry districts in the North Island, lie then proceeded by stating that the Government did not advocate people taking up poultry farming as an independent business, aa that required practical experience and special aptitude for the work. The main development of the industry was to be looked for as a side lino on the farm, or by the suburban resident. 'He then went on to deal with that branch of the work which is most important at the present time —that for culling and selection of stock for breeding purposes. Bv moans of three live birds Mr. Salisbury demonstrated the points by which the hest breeding birds could be distinguished. Mr. Salisbury answered a number of questions that were put to him, and at the conclusion a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded him for him instructive address.
