PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Patriotic Committee was held at the Soldiers' Club last night. Mr. C. H. Burgess (chairman) presided, and there were also present: The Veil- Archdeacon Hvans, Messrs J. W. Chaney (deputychairman), L. M. Monteath (secretary), if. li. Hill, C. E. Bcllringer, C. Sadler, and C. Carter. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. Paton, T. C. List, J. Clarke, J. McLeod, and 11. J. tirooknianSomn discussion took place as to the contribution promised at last meeting to funds for tile men of the Wellington Battalion at tin; front, to provide additional comforts. It was pointed out that the decision to contribute was conditional upon other patriotic committees contributing their quota towards the fund, and that no information had come to hand as to whether the other committees were doing their part. The first contribution from New .Plymouth lmd been sent by cheque, as the matter had been reported urgent. It waa de: cided to leave the matter to be reported on bv the society's representative to the War Relief Association, after consultation with other representatives there. A request was received for a contribution towards the establishment of a Fallen Soldiers' .Memorial Club for returned soldiers at Rotorua. The letter pointed out that soldiers from all parts of New Zealand were sent to Rotorua and would participate in the -benefits of the club. It would be quite undenominational and under the control of a committee of business men. Soldiers undergoing treatment would be honorary members of the club during their stay in Rotorua. While it was generally conceded that the club would be a big Denefit to men from all parts of the Dominion, general consideration of the request was deferred till next meeting. 1 The hon. treasurer's statement showed that the balances of the funds at February 5 were: Patriotic fund £477 9s Bd, YM.CA. £5 10s, and hire of motor ear £3 . Receipts for the past month were ;C1 30s, and the expenditure £BS IGs. The balances at March 12 were: Patriotic fund £393 0s Sd, Y.MC.A. £o JOs, hire of motor ear fund £25.
