At the sitting of the Defence Expenditure Commission this morning there was only one witness, Douglas, who deposed (hat a certain man was paid oil' from the Defence Department and received a pension of 3b's. Now, in addition, he had salaried employment, while, also, his wife was receiving las a week from a patriotic association. The burden of her complaint was that persons who knew the facts wen* stopping their subscriptions to patriotic funds. The chairman said inquiry would be made The commission will bo here till Tuesday.
