MR. P. C. WEBB, M.P.
NOT YET IN CAMP. Considerable interest has been evinced with regard to the position of Mr. P. C. Webb, the member for Grey, following on the call which has been made on him under the conscription law (says Saturday's Wellington Times). It will be recollected that an appeal was made for exemption on his behalf by his constituents, and was dismissed. Ho unsuccessfully applied for a rehearing, and it is Understood that an appeal to the Defence Department for an extension of time until after the short session of Parliament was also refused. '•" Mr. Webb was duo to go into camp on Tuesday, but apparently under the advice of his constituents he is taking up an attitude of passive resistance. His name has been frequently called at the barracks without response. It was rumored in the city yesterday that he was to be waited upon at his hotel by the military police and conducted as a duly certificated soldier to Trentham camp. This event has certainly not yet taken place. What may happen next week if the member for Grey does not present himself at barracks or camp is another matter.
