OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN REDMOND. London, March 6. The death has occurred of Mr. John Redmond, leader of the Wall Nationalist Party. Mr. Redmond, who was 07 years of age, had been a member of the House of Commons for :)7 years. Though a strong supporter of home rule for Ireland, he never supported unconstitutional action, and enjoyed the respect of all parties in the House ;;f Commons. Mr. Redmond's health failed some time ago. Death followed a severe operation, rendered imperative owing to intestinal obstruction. He made satisfactory progress for a few days, then heart failure supervened.
TRESS TRIBUTES TO HIS WORK. Received March 7, 7.50 p.m. London, March 6. Mr. Redmond's death is generally de. plorod, particularly at the present critical situation in Irish affairs. Newspapers of all shades pay a tribute to his work nnd sincerity, and sorrowfully comment on his departure on the eve of the fcO complishmcnt of his life's work.
TRIBUTES IN PARLIAMENT, A TRUE PATRIOT.; Received March 7, 10.5 p.m. London, March 7. Mr. Lloyd George said he would have moved the adjournment of the House in connection with Mr. John' Redmond's <tcath, but there was an urgent necessity to carry on the business. There was, he said, no difference of opinion regarding the ability, genius, eloquence, judgment and dignity with whieh-the late Mr John Redmond advocated the Irish policy, and it was a tragedy that he should be cut down before he achieved tne great purpose of his life. "When I saw him last lie was n broken man. Death was writ, on his face. His last words were a plea for concord between the two countries" Mr. Asquith said that John Redmond's death was an indescribable shock. Mr Redmond was a great Parliamentarian, and a true patriot.
