Rev. W. A. Sinclair, of New Plymouth, .has been appointed by tho Methodist Conference chairman of the TaranakiWanganui District. Mr Heiiton Rhodes, member of the Ne;v Zealand Parliament, has arrived in London, and is enquiring into the organisation of the New Zealand Red Cross. Mrs. H. Autridge, Westown, has been advised that her son, Rifleman Lance Autridgc, has been invalided'home. He is expected to reach Wellington at an early date. Lance-Sergfc. Seed, a returned soldier, arrived at New Plymouth by "last night's mail train and was welcomed by tho Mayor. Private S. D..Pone, who is well known hi New Plymouth and along the coast, returned from the- front by a vcsac-I that arrived in Wellington on Wednesday. Before proceeding to France, Private' Pope saw service in Samoa. The Rev. A. Liversedgo has been definitely appointed to the Hawera Methodist circuit. He was formerly stationed in the South Island. Lieutenant R. J. Eyre, son of Mr. R. B. D. Eyre, Collector of Customs, New Plymouth, cables that ho is ill with metres at Salisbury 'Plains. Captain W. H. Hawkins, of Okato, returned to New Zealand by a ship that arrived in Wellington on Wednesday. It is understood that he is home on twelve months' furlough. Word has been received from Captain Hine, M.P., to the effect that he will be leaving England shortly in charge of a draft, and will have a "month's leave in New Zealand.
The Methodist Conference has appointed the following home missionaries to Taranaki stations: Opuimke, Rev. C. Stand; Okato, Rev. E. D. M. King; .Douglas, Rev. J. Akers; Patca, Rev. W. Watson. ■ Mr. W. P. Nicoll, Xew Plymouth, has reci '.ved word that his brother, Mr. A. K Kicoll, the well-known artist, who left New Zealand with the artillery section of the oth Reinforcements, is returning to Xcw Zealand. Mr. Xicoll was severely wounded at the Somme, in 1010, and has had his right leg amputated at the thigh.
Mrs. ft. M. Harvey of Benconsfield road, Stratford, has received advice that her son Private D. M. Harvey, of the Sixth Reinforcements, has been gassed and admitted to a hospital in France. This is the second occasion on which Private Harvey's name appears on the casualty list.

Another old identity died on Saturday evening after a long illness namelv, Mrs. Sophia Barljer '(says the Wellington Post). Mrs. Barber, who was in her Slat year, was horn in Kent, arriving with her parents in the year 1840 by the ship Martha Kidgwayj and with the exception of a few years spent in Australia, had lived in Wellington ever since, passing through the trials and hardships of the early settlers.
