FAREWELLTXG SOLDIERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford. March 0. The public attended in otrong numbers at the j)ost otlic-c this morning, when the St'ratford members of the liilth Reinforcements were farowelled by the Mayor and Rev. .). 1). Madill. Both gentlemen delivered s.hort but impressive addresses, in which they e::pr«s*c<l the hope that all would have a safe return is the days to com'e. The speakers were sure the departing men would worthily uphold the prestige built up by the pioneer New Zealandcrs and sustained bv the later reinforcements. The town band, under conductor L. Spurdle, mustered strongly asd played several military selections in a manner that pleased the spectators and was flattering to the conductor. The veteran piper, Mr. doe Wade, also had the pipes going. The ladles' committee, represented by Messrs Boon, Budge, and Good, distributed hold-alls to t'lTo departing soldiers. After being bandaged he was removed home, and is doing nicely. Lieut. Richardson, of the Territorial?, acted as despatch oiiicer at the farewell to soldiers this morsing. The suppliers to the Stratford Dairy Co. intend celebrating the opening of the new cheese-making factory, which is now in full swing, with a concert and dance i n the Tows Hall on Thursday, 21st iiisf. Mr. Frank Kan ford, a director, who is also a comedian of note, is organising the concert, programme. Particulars will be advertised in due course. The proceeds will go to the patriotic [funds.
