ORDER OF THE STAR IN THE EAST.

The travelling organiser and lecturer of the "Order of the Star in the East," Miss C. W. Christie, delivered a lecture entitled "The Seamless Vesture," in tha Theosophieal room, Brougham street, on bunday, a brief outline of which is: At certain critical periods in the life and evolution of humanity special needs arise. Then there is a special intervention of Providence which modifies or terminates existing conditions and gives the necessary impetus towards a new' and brighter era When the clock of the universe strikes tho hour there is always a tremendous destruction of bodies either by war or cataclysm, or both combined; then to the survivors there comes a °reat teacher of religion, a Divine man "who gathers round Him the few who <-, v bear His teaching, and only the few can bear it. His teachings live and bear fruit. His followers found a new religion in His name, its keynote always being the new command or new keynote lie gives them. For this hum&nnity such as hour has struck, the 6bdies of'our best and bravest are dying by millions in Europe and when the war is over the teacher will appear. The speaker showed the similarity of events happening toijlay, with those of the past, then drew a powerful picture of' the <Teath of the Christ and the scene on Calvary. The Saviour jiving, even to the dc-ath, His keynote of self-sacrifhe, the mocking crowd, tho four soldiers dividing Ilis garments symbolical of the four roots and sub-races whose gartnent of flesh He has worn and in each of which He has left something of His Divine beauty and purity fo> the benefit of the future wearers, The fifth garment cannot be divided; it is seamless, woven throughout, it is the outward visible garment of Christ —the unifying Christ-principle, and. it falls to the fifth race (ours) to begin to wear it. Is it to be death for His body when He comes this time? Or shall we know enough to wear with joy His seamless vesture of universal brotherhood, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or color?
