NO SHORTAGE THIS YEAR
J . (From Our Own Correspondent) Wellington, March 1. The Government has not yet made any decision regarding next year's Vheat crop, but the indications are that the system of purchase adopted this'yeah will not be continued. The'guarttntee of a fixed price Jp the New Zealand farmers liaß had the desired effect of increasing production, and there is now no reason to anticipate a shortage thiti year. But the guarantee has introduced other complications, and the system can be regarded only as a temporary measure. Mr. Massey has made it clear in various utterances on the subject that his wish is to get the question of Wheat production settled on a secure basis. He wants the New Zealand farmer to be placed in such a position that he will grow the quantity of wheat without any special appeal from the'Gpvernment and without fear of loss under ordinary conditions. This to spell the imposition of such a duty o» imported wheat and flour as will give security to the New Zealand wheat farther.
