HUGE LAND SLIDE.
THOI SANDS OF TONS OF DEBRIS. Palmerston N., March 3. Advice has been received that a tremendous land slide occurred on Cliff Road to Kawhatau, on Thursday last, and is probably' the largest slip that has taken place at this spot, Jiough ' t some huge .slides have happened in past. The cliff slipped away not far from the Mang.iweka, Town Board's power-house, and it is reported, that thousands of tons of debris were brought down. So great was the amount of mullock hurled into the Rangitikei river that its passage was blocked for some time. There is probably no more dangerous portion of the King's highway in New Zealand than this trap on Kawhatau V alley extension. Everv winter brings its harvest of accidents and narrow escapes.
