INGLEWOOD.

(Our Travelling Reporter.) Tnglewood, March 4. The swimming club here is one of th most alive in' the province, and the race., on Thursday showed -,that the committee knew how to conduct a gathering witli i expedition. In this connection one would like to see the Tnglewood ladies competing with the New Plymouth girls at some sports. Miss Julian, who obtained three firsts, iB a very graceful swimmer, and for a short distance can muster a fair amount of speed, while her three op* poncnts—Misses McLean, Rolston and Humphries—are quite up'to competition standard. Inglewood possesses a "boy (Stan. Brown) who should establish a name in athletic circles. At the Boy Scouts' sports he seemed to "mop up" all the events on tho'programme, in that easy and decisive manner which betokens a future champion. At even starts there was no on& to get near him, and in one race at the baths of 25 yards be was called upon to give one swimmer about twelve yards' start—and did not win. The Boy Scouts are also a strong §gjnbinntion, and with a revvval of football lind cricket clubs, the Inglewood folks should make the other districts sit up. Captain A. Coldwell, who represented tlie Inglewood Fire Brigade at the recent fire brigade conference at Taurnnga, has returned. He speaks highly of the hospitality oi the public there. The weather throughout was very warm. At the church parade, the sermon preached by Archdeacon Tuke, firemen were allowed to remove their tunics, and, as a consequence, appreciated the kindness of- the church officials in granting this concession. •* ■
