ANNUAL . MEETING OP TARANAKI v -BRANCH. The thirty-third annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held on Saturday, Mr. A. V. Sims presiding. Sixteen new members were elected, making tho total membership '250 (Including 14 teachers at tho front). The balance-sheet was read and adopted, showing a balance in hand of £29 10s 2d, as against £l3 12s last year. The delegates to the recent conference (Mrs. Dowling, Messrs W- A. Curteis, . and T. Thomas) gave a short account - of the proceedings. The outstanding features of the conference were the decision to have a paid secretary, the, framing of terms for admitting secondary anil technical school teachers as branches of the-XJS. Educational Institute, and the initiation of a campaign' to educate public opinion in the need for great im- . provomonts in education bv way of increased accommodation, batter buildings, smaller- eliksses, and more facilities for Hiodieal and dental treatment, etc. , !. The delegates were thanked for their : services. The president gave a short resume of the work of the executive since last annual meeting, and the election of officers then took place as follows: President, Mr. A. V. Sims (re-elected). Appreciative reference was made to the able manner in which Mr. Sims hail carried out his duties during the past year. Vice-presidents, Mrs. Dowling and Mr. T. Thomas; secretary and treasurer, MrR. L. McTlrov; executive, Miss E. Andrews, Messrs W. A. Curteis, A Bnllians, 0. Johnson. R. Thomas, 0. J. Howarth, and H. W. Jackson; auditor, Mr. E. Bary, The president and Mr T. Thomas were appointed a si-b-committee to go into the question of obtaining a typewriter. A vote of thanks was passed to the secretary for his services, and lie was voted an honorarium of five guineas, A voto of sympathy wag »a«sed to the parents of the late Miss IT. M Hall, recently assistant teacher at Midhirst school. ' The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was fba-'-od for an invitation to a social to celebrate the 28rd aim|. versary of its foundation, tho wivtarv and Mr. Howarth being appointed to represent the Institute. The secretary gave notice to move at next meeting that the annual subscription bo increased, to meet tho increased annual levy to thp X.?. EdugaUonal Instltuto.
