AN ENEMY SUCCESS.

A French communique reports an in. tense artillery duel in the region north und north-west of Rheims and Champagne, and south-west of Butte du Mesnil. The enemy, after being driven out by counter-attacks from some points, again attacked with fresh force?. After several unsuccessful attempts with heavy losses, the enemy regained a footing in part of the positions taht we captured on February 13. The enemy bombarded our front lines on the front from Beaumont to Chaume Wood, also at Sucheprcs% where a big raid was repulsed at two pointß last night. During to-day's attacks American troopß came into contact with special raiding troops. The Americans everywhere held their lines intact, inflicting appreciable losses on the enemy. A French communique states: We completely re-established our lines at la Pompelle, where the enemy attacked on Friday night. There is lively artillerying on the right of the Mouse, north of Bezoiwant. UNSUCCESSFUL ENEMY ATTACKS. RAIDS REPULSED! Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Reuter. Received March 3, fi.2o p.m. London, March 2. Sir Douglas Haig reports successful raids southward of Aimentieres, in tile neighborhood of Arleux en Gohelle. Two enemy night raids entered the British, trenches, and captured a few prisoners, but in a third all the raiders were killed or captured. After a strong bombardment on a wide front, northward of Ncuve Chapclle a strong party attacked and entered the Portuguese front trenches. They were immediately ejected, and the position restored. The British repulsed raids at the Ypres—Comines Canal and southward of Houthulst forest. SUCCESSFUL RAIDS. / LARGE CASUALTIES INFLICTED. London, March 1.
