THE AUTUMN SHOW.
SPLENDID STOCK ENTRIES. The officials of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society, who have f()r the past few months been working very hard in the interests of the autumn sliow, which is to be held on the society's new show grounds at Waiwakaiho tomorrow and Thursday, have everyßeason to feel satisfied with the entries received. Not only have the farmers in North and Central Taranaki responded freely, but South Taranaki is also very well represented, while entries have been received from as far away as Palmerston North. Entries right through show an increase on last year. Cattle sections are. particularly strong, and nearly all the prize winners at Hawera will be. seen out in competition with fresh entries. Jn Friesinns the competition is particularly strong, and some very fine classes, both as regards numbers and quality, will parude before the judge. Sheep and pigs both show an increase, while some fat cattle exhibited will show that there is no need for freezing works to run short while Taranaki can produce such magnificent beasts. . Horses, particularly draughts, have filled well. Yesterday was a very busy day at the siiow grounds, when numbers of the prominent members of the committee took part in a working bee, preparing the additional cattle pens, erecting tents, etc., and by evening the grounds presented a sliowlike appearance. To-day the working bee will put oil the finishing touches, and everything will be in readiness for the opening to-morrow. The entries of agricultural machinery are also larger than usual, firms from as far away as Wauganui entering freely. The grounds are looking well, considerable improvements having been effected. The grass has come on well in the ring, and there will be an absence of the dust nuisance that was so prevalent on the occasion of the first show. Some of the improvements effected include the, levelling oil' and grassing of the ''preliminary" paddock in front of the horse boxes, and also of the motor-car and machinery paddock. Indications generally point to the show being one of the most successful ever held, and no mean factor in this success will be the ladies, who have undertaken to arrange the catering, and are enthusiastically making the necessary preparations. New tables and forms have been provided for the luncheon room, under the main stand, "while a large marquee is also provided to cope with the crowd. In addition, the ladies are running a soft drinks and ice cream tent. The refreshment, booth is under the control of II r. 10. Whittle, which is also a guarantee that nil will be of the best. There should be large attendances of the public, especially on People's Day, for tlinrc will be much to interest, them. Excellent entries have been received in all the ring ovunts, and the sloping bank around the arona permits everyone to have an unobstructed view. On People's Day the grand parade is set down , for 1.30 p.m. The train arrangements, considering the present policy adopted by the Department, must bo considered as . very satisfactory, there being two delayed trains on the evening of People's Day, which should suit the country people, who can come in by the ordinary morning train. Townspeople will be catered for by an increased tram service. The secretary (Mr. W. P. Okey).is attending to every detail, and all that is required to ensure success is favorable weather.
