(From Our Own Correspondent). Stratford, Feb. 2fi. The estimated results of Saturday's sale of stock auctioned on behalf of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund are said to be in the neighborhood of £210(1, and to Ibis is added two sections (unsold). Until the balance-sheet has been made up the figured above are approximate, bu. they show that the district has every reason to be satisfied with the results secured. Naturally the committee are pleased at the generous support given by the farmers and others, so as to allow the achievement aimed at, UiJOdO, becoming an accomplished fact. Later on a meeting of the committee and canvassers will be held when fuller particulars will be available. Young Mail five years ago won a Tar::raki scholarship, and since that time has not looked back, hut gone forward and now word has been received bv his parents that he has passed bis final examination {mwlir-fl.il at the Otago University and shortly goes into camp. The success of vouiif Mail will lie verv pleasing to his old schoolmaster. Mr. Tyrer, as veil as his parents. The new buildings erected by the Stratford Farmers' Co-op. Society are now well forward. An important meeting on the question of increasing the capital and altering articles of association, will be held to-morrow morning. Miss C. \Y. Christie's lecture upon the "An'sels of Mor.s and other phenomena of the battlefield'' oilers an cxnhination at once rational in harmony with expert oec'ilt evidence. A crowded hall is expected. The '"Ucan" haircutter ha« proved a popular article in the household. Mr C. E. James, agent for this district, has been notified that Hie Government contemplates purchasing some for use with members of the Defence Department. It is a unique gift that would be much appreciated, particularly by those in the trenches, as with a gift of this description a soldier could always keep his hair clipped short, ar.d thus lie spared a good deal of misery and irritation.
