BOROUGH COUNCII* (From Our Own Correspondent). Eltham, Feb. 23. The monthly meeting of the council was held last evening. Present: The (Mr. T. B. Crump) * and Crs. A. Beesley, J Ballantine, H. 3. Carman, H. Judd, E. Parrott, G.' VV. Tayler, 0 H. White and M. A. Whiteford. ' -' The works committee recommended that Mahgawhero road should be reformed and tar-sealed from the Mountain road to the Salvation Army Home gate, or scarified and refaced or tar-sealed if the grades are suitable. They also suggested that employees' annual holidays should be struck ?'.'*,' end that a war bonus ot Is. per day be paid during the war and for six months afterwards. Mr. Hineh, caretaker of reserves, asked to be relieved of his duties at the cemetery, as his hands' were full in attending to the- Taurnata Park <ind railway station plots., This request was referred to the works committee, after a suggestion had been made that the borough employees might relieve Hindi of his duties at the cemetery. Mr C Burke, overseer, reported that some of the ratepayers were turning storm-water into the sewers, thus affecting the septic tanks. It was decided that the by-laws must he enforced. C'r. A. Smalley forwarded his resignation as a member of the council.
