MEDICAL BOARD OF APPEAL.
J * ■• .— ««■. ■'• ■.■ OUTCOME OF THACKEIt INQUIRY. (Our Special Correspondent). AVcllington, Feb. 22. Tlio report of the military inquiry Unit considered Dr. Thacker's charge's against the medical service is not a very informative document. The whole in-' quiry, in fact, was a badly arranged affair. Dr. Tliacker made certain charge? against th.e medical service, chiefly in connction with the examination of remits. He spoke and wrote in general terms. Somebody decided , that there should be an official inquiry and,a military court was set up. Then the doctor wan invited to present his evidence, and «l the same time people with grievances' against, the medical service were asked to come alone-. Dr. Tliacker did not feel that it was his duty to go beyond certain specific cases, and the inquiry really did little more than collect the viewa ot some people who had either grievances or grouches. If there was going to be n'n inquiry at all, it should have taken the form of a, full official investigation. . The inquiry is having one Mse'fill outcome in (he setting up of a medical board of appeal, for the examination of reservists who are not satisfied with the decisions of the ordinary medical, boards, Tt is not intended tljat every reservist shall be able to appeal at will. Cause will have to be shown, and applications for the right to appeal will be received through the Director of Kecruiting for the consideration of the Assistant Directors of Medical Services in the various; districts, or, in doubtful caocs. of the Director-General of Medical Services.
