URU'S CONVICTIONS. Christchurch, Last Night. Uru, M.P. for Southern Maori, states that politically he is an absolute independent, though at the present juncture he is in favor of the National Government. He holds the view, however, that all Maoris should be independents, and no matter what the parties may be that they should look after their own interests, at the same time doing their best for the good ,of the country generally. In his younger days Uru was a very prominent New Zealand athlete, and has represented Canterbury in both cricket and football.
