1 THE EMPIRE3IME. OLGA PETROVA IN "TO THE DEATH" TO-NIC4HT. A splendid new Metro romance starts on its three-day season at the Empiretheatre to-night. Its title is "To the Death." In five acts this dramatic photoplay tells a fine story of love and revenge. Till; scene is Corsica, the Mediterranean isle famous in 'history as the birthplace of Xapoleon. Amid these pretty scenes the plot of the drama is enhanced in popular interest, and another attraction lies in the fact that t winsome, emotional star, Mrne. Olga Petrova, plays in the central part of Bianca Sylva, the heroine. Rlic is a lace maker, who shows a talent for sculpture, and this in itself lends opportunity for the introduction of several pretty scenes. Her skill attracts a famous ar-l tist, who . takes 'her under this wii ' She goes to Paris to pursue her studi and to win success, and while she is away her younger sister. Posa, for whom she has much affection, lias her life ruined. Bianca swears to trace the man and take a merciless revenge, and all her activities unearth suspicion against the very man she loves. Here lies the powerful interest of this fine masterpiece of •human emotions, and the climax built up from the incidents of the play is a profound surprise. The closing incidents reveal the uncertainty of circiynstantial evidence and leaves the audience in a pleasant flutter of satisfaction. 4mona the other themes is the American Co-op-erative Weekly, which pictures the latest topical events, and there are also two excellent fun films, one "Why Ben Polted" and the other "Won in a Cabaret."
EVERYBODY'S. ALICE JOYCE AND HARRY MOREY IN "RICHARD THE BRAZEN." For plain, everyday resourcefulness, the palm must 'tie handed to the 'hero of •"'Richard the Brazen," the Greater Vitagraph drama screening at Everybody to-night and to-morrow. He saw i\ beautiful girl in an English chop-house, and from that meeting arose a chain of adventures of the most exciting kind. Lord Croyland, an English diplomat in charge of an important munitions mission to America, is seriously hurt in a motor accident and "Richard the Brazen'' takes his place. Posing as an English nobleman conies thoroughly to his taste, and lie uses an eveglass with imniense effect. His courtship goes well until lie finds that the girt is invokd with a scoundrel who ;.■ mini* |o blackmail her, and the earnestness with wlr ' lie rushes in to defend her „oo u lands lnm in dire trouble The scenes are laid both in England and America, and the settings are of the most elaborate and costly description. Particular mention should be made of the two old men who portray so splendidly the partners who quarrel over a munitions contract. There are a number of good supporting pictures.
