AUSTRALIAN BANKER'S WARNING. Speaking at the half-yearly meeting of tho. shareholders of the Commercial Hanking Company of Sydney, Ltd., last week, Mr. G- J- Cohen, chairman of directors, said that- six months ago lie called tho attention of the community to the necessity for economy to enable the country to bear the burden of debt caused 'by the war. "I regret," lie said, "that so far there is nn evidence of any serious attempt, at economy by the people. Rxtravagance is only too apparent everywhere and in every form, and unfortunately seems to he on the increase. That strict economy will sooner or later l>e forced on the community is clear to everyone versed in financial masters, and the sooner the public can be made to realise this the better it will be for the country.
