Shaw, Las returned to Auckland. THE RACES. Ideal weather prevailed for the races on Wednesday and Thursday, and there were record attendances. The meeting was the most successful the club has held, and the improvements that are constantly being effected to the grounds were a source of favorable comment. The course is one of the beauty spots of the town, the views to be obtained from various points being unique. Flower beds were again a pleasing feature of the grounds. The local band was in attendance, and contributed largely to the pleasure of the meeting. There were large attendances on both days, the ladies being well represented. Shaw gave a most enjoy-able-garden party on Wednesday at her beautiful residence, Devon Street, in honor of Mrs. Hirst, who is shortly leaving for Jnvercargill and Mrs. AV. J- Shaw, who was visiting l.c-re. Musical items were siven by Mrs. Campbell and Miss Alma Shaw. Competitions of golf and target croquet caused a great deal of in: terest. Dainty afternoon tea and ices were served on the verandah. ■ Mrs Shaw received her guests in a black voile, trimmed with bands of black silk, and black hat. Mra AV.
