PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Patriotic Committee was held on Tuesday night ■Mr. C. 11. Burgess [iresided, and there were also present tlte Veil. Archdeacon Evans, Messrs J. W. Chanev, J. Clarke, ,). R. Hill, J. Paton, C. Carter, C E. Bellringer, and L. M. Monlcath (hon. secretary). On the motion of the chairman it was resolved to send a letter of condolence to the relatives of the late Mr. Hal. Coodacre The motion was carried in the customary manner. A letter was received from the Department of Internal Allah's stating that amounts forwarded for the Y.M.C.A.'s work should lie sent through the headquarters of the association and not to the association's agents in the field. The chairman said the object was to keep the funds in specially defined channels and he thought the course should he followed by (he committee. A letter was received from the Taranaki War Relief Association intimating that local committees could make payments up to £-> to soldiers from other districts without reference to the district to which the man belonged Lieut.-Colonel Hughes wrote asking the committee to join in a scheme for providing supplementary regimental funds for the officers and men of the AVcllington Battalions on active service in order to assist them in securing extra comforts while on service. The letter set out the proposed assessments ,of the various committees, the New Plymouth committee being asked to provide the sum of £ls per month. Mr. Clarke moved that the committee contribute its quota, subject to the other committees interested in' the X lth Regiment doing tboir share. Mr. Carter seconded th? motion. which was carried. It was decided to endorse the action of the Wnl representative to the Taraiiaki War Relief Association in guaranteeing tlie sum of £ls towards the appeal on behalf of funds for the help of men in Palestine A verv elaborate and comprehensive scheme for placing the loan funds of the Taranaki War Relief Association upon some more permanent footing was received from the secretary of the association. The scheme was considerably involved, and it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the local representative of the committee to use his own discretion when the matter came up for consideration by the Association. The action of the chairman in having a tent, to accommodate four soldiers, erected at Mt. Eginont wa? approved. The chairman pointed out that he had had the provision made in order that men going up there might have a place in which they could be to themselves. It was also resolved to acconl a vote of thanks to Mr. Cpson, who had put up the tent and fixed the bunks, etc., .gratuitously. A letter was read from the Scottish Women's Hospital for war service, Appealing for funds for their work, a detailed account of which was supplied, and showed that the. Scottish Hospital was carrying on work in almost every theatre of war. and that the worker's were under Covernment recognition. The whole of their operations were carried out by women workers.
