ADDRESS BY SIR J. CARROLL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christcmirch, Jan. 31. Sir James Carroll addressed the Maoris at Tuamhiwi list night regarding the vacancy of the Southern Maori District. He said he would address the electors in all parts of the district, after which he would suggest the name of a certain person to represent them in Parliament. He hoped the electors would agree to the choice, especially aa it was only a matter of about six months to another election. At the close of the meeting a motion was carried in lsave the selection of a candidate to Sir James Carroll. :» Some indignation was expressed when it was announced that, though the writ I had been issued, rolls had not been published and people did not know-whettiac they were entitled to vote.
