"At thfe'aeourt this morning, three hotelkeepers were fined sums varying from £1 to £2, for permitting shouting. It was urged that being a race day the hotels were busy and breaches of the law were inadvertently committed. The police stated that the hotels were well conducted, and there had been no previous convictions. The magistrate said the fines were light because of the police evidence, but if the offenders came before him again severe penalties would be in» fireted. HAWKES BAY RAM FAIR. Eastings, Last Night. At the first day of the Hawkes Bay Ram Fair there was a fairly large attendance. Prices did not rule as high as last year, and numerous lines were passed in. Average prices were obtained for flock sheep. In Lincoln stud rams the best figure obtained was 95 guineas for a oneshear bred by W. H. Gaisford, of Dannevirke. Romney stud rams realised good prices, the highest figure being 210 guineas for a two-shear bred by W. Raynor, of Masterton, the purchaser being J. O'Grady, of Gisborne. Last year's record price for a stud Lincoln was 203 guineas. LINSEED OIL AND WHITE LEAD Wellington, Last Night. -The Director of Munitions in Melbourne some months ago prohibited the exportation of white lead. The Hon A. M. Myers stated yesterday he had received a communication intimating that because of certain new arrangements made it would not now be necessary for firms ordering linseed oil andwhitc lead from Australia to apply for priority permits.
