ON THE SEA.
ESCORT VESSEL TORPEDOED. TORPEDO BOAT SUNK IN COLLISION Received Jan 31, 1.55 a.m. London, Jan. 30. The armed escort vessel Mechanician was torpedoed, and subsequently stranded, in the English Channel, on' January 20, being a total wreck. Thirteen lives were lost. The torpedo boat Hazard was sunk in the English Channel on January 29, as the result of a collision, three lives being lost. THE CONVOY SYSTEM. Chiozza Money ?ays the ocean Convoy for ships has proved satisfactory, -U.000.000 of gross tonnage having been convoyed up till January in, the loss being equivalent to 1.44 per cent. CITY OF CORK SUNK. VESSEL BROKEN ASUNDER. London, Jan. 29. On Sunday night the City of Cork was sunk with 4(1 passengers and crew on hoard. A torpedo exploded in the engine-room and the vessel immediately broke in two and sank in four minutes. Twenty-four persons scrambled into the boats. THE GOBEN. \ DIFFERENT VERSIONS,, London, Jan. 20. The Admiralty states that, despite bad weather, during the course of several raids bombs were dripped on the Goeben and gun positions at Gana Tepe, The position of the ship was unchanged yesterday at noon. Amsterdam, Jan. 2!». A telegram from Constantinople claims that the Goeben is quite fit for service, the aerial attacks having inflicted only unimportant damage to the funnels and armored plating. THE GOEBEN DISAPPEARS. Received Jan. 31, 1.50 a.m. London, Jan. 30. Admiralty reconnaissances on Sunday at midnight showed that the Goeben was no longer ashore at Nagara Point. THE ANDANIA. CONFLICTING REPORTS. London, Jan. 29. The Andania has been towed to a north of Ireland port. London, Jan. 23. Tlie Andania lias been sunk. SINKING OF THE ANDANIA CONFIRMED. Reutcr Service. Received Jan. 31, 12.50 a.m. London, Jan. 30. It is officially confirmed that the Andania has sunk, apparently while being towed to port. ■ THE 'DROME STRIKES A MINE. Paris, Jan. 21). The ©rome struck a mine and sunk near Marseilles, also a trawler. Forty persons were lost. There were passengers on board the Drome.
