FIRES.
OUTBREAKS IN CERISTCHURGB, By Telegraph.—Press Association. ChriUchurch, Jan. 30. A fire broke out early this morning, in the premises of the New Zealand Coffee and Spice Co., Durham Street, The first floor was completely gutted, ■ large quantities of spices being destroys ed. The brigade prevented the spreading to the ground floor, so all the company's stock of coffee was saved. The inisurajiees on the stock were .C 3300, on the plant £4OO, and on the buildings £9OO. The losses on tho stock were heavy, but the buildings were little damaged. Later in the morning a in the block of buildings in ManhaJter Street, next to the Esc»lskff Efojtol. The fire started in a fruit Bnop occu-, pied by Miss Garland, which was badly damaged, as well as »the first floor,, but the brigade prevented the further j spread of the fire. , f . ACCOMMODATION HOUSE • DESTROYED. Dunedin, Last Night. Early this morning premises known as Kolberg's Accommodation House at Paunawea were totally destroyed by fire, all the contents being consumed. Mr, Kolberg died a (few years ago, and Mrs Kolberg had carried on sinoc her husband's death, but recently her own illness and that of the principal assistant compelled her to close down the establisbmenl, which was, therefore, untenanted', so that the origin of the outbreak is a mystery. 'Dig damage done isestimatcd at £I2OO on pre-war prices, and against this it is said there »9 an insurance policy for £2OO. A bucket brigade prevented the. flames spreading to a detached washhoußO.
