DISDAINS TO APPEAL.
CLERGYMAN IiKADY TO FIGHT. At a meeting of the deacons of the Tiimiru Congregational Church the Rev. Twidsou Potts intimated that he had been called up in the military service ballot. A mistake had been made somewhere, as lie was ii> Class 1' of the Second Division, but, notwithstanding the error, he had decided not to appeal for exemption, and if he were found medically fit he was ready to go to the front, livery available fit man was urgently needed at the present time, and he expressed his willingness to serve in any capacity. It was pointed out that at the present time there was a. shortage of Congregation ministers in New Zealand. Several churches were vacant, and the services were being carried on by laymen. Mr. Potts said he recognised the inconvenience to t'he denomination and to the Tinutru Church, but everyone, he said, must make sacrifices. He was prepared to make the sacrifice if necessary. It v/'i'u unanimously resolved to request the chairman of the Congregational Union of New Zealand, as the head of the denomination, to appeal for exemption for Mr. Potts on the ground of public interest, and the secretary of the church was requested to take "all necessary ,steps to prosecute the appeal.
