AWAKINO COLLIE CLUB.
, ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Awakino Collie Club was held in the Awakino Hall on the 10th instant, \and was well attended by the . members of the club. Mr. A. H. Calvert of the club) presided, and submitted the usual business. After some discussion itwas unanimously decided that the 1018 trials should be held on March 26 and 27, the proceeds to the extent of seventyfive per cent, to be devoted to patriotic purposes, the balance to be retained by the club for the upkeep of their grounds. The election of officials for the present year then took place. Mr. W. D, Thomson was elected patron and Mr. A. H. Calvert was re-elected president. All the old committee and officials were reelected, with the exception of Mr. Bryant, who resigned the position of sheep steward, owing to pressure of business. Mr. P. Rogers was appointed to act in his place. Messrs. W. Blundell, G. Bradbury and G. Mack were added to the committee. Messrs G. Lake arid Iv. Black were appointed a social committee, with power to add. A wire was received from Mr. J. Scott, regretting that he was unable to attend the meeting, and wishing the club a prosperous and successful season. Mr. Scott also kindly donated a ladies' bracelet, to be allotted as the club thought fit, and it was decided that it should be open to local competition only, and each dog entered to be nominated by a lady. It is to be hoped that the club will tgain be favored with pleasant weather during its forthcoming 12th annual trials, and that it will have the pleasure of meeting old competitors and friends, and many new ones. The proceeds this year are to be for the benefit of the Y.M.C.A., and it is the earnest desire of ail members with the assistance of their friends to put up a record meeting, and so be in a position to hand over a substantial cheque to the Y.M.C.A. During the last three years—the currency of the war—the club has, from the proceeds of its trials, donated £222 to the various patriotic funds, which undoubtedly speaks volumes for the energy of the officials and the club as a whole, more especially as members' time has of late years been more than fully occupied owing to the war conditions, but they feel that it is their special duty to endeavor to keep the' club on a sound basis during the absence of their fellow members at the front, believing that if a meeting lapsed it would be, practically impossible to reinstate the club to its present prominent position' The members also recognise that the satisfactory state of the club, financially and otherwise, is due in a great measure to the hearty support and assistance ten- ' dered them by the ladies of the district.
