ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Eltham, Jan. 20. Mr. W. Freeman, clerk of the court, has supplied the following figures of work done in Eltham during 1017, with comparisons for 1010. The figures, which -how a decrease in instance, are as follows: Number of plaints, 1917, 233 .1016, 270); judgment summons, 44 (54); warrants issued, 30 (f>l); criminal (■'■ urges, 121 (134); amounts-sued for, CJI7O (£3400) v amounts recovered, £I4BO ( £1000). The canvassers appointed to raise I unds to make a presentation to Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Barnard, prior to leaving Eltham for Wellington, are receiving very generous support, and by the time the list closes a good sum should be available for the purpose. It rained here last night. It was no mild sprinkling, but a solid, pouring rain—water that defied the oilskin and found a leak in the roof. Meetings that should have been held lapsed for want of a quorum. To-day a glorious sunshine followed the storm, and the pastures are looking none the worse for the soaking.
