DR. THACKER'S CHARGES.
TREATED WITH CONTEMPT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wollir.ptr,*.:, -Tail. 28. In connection with the rumors puhlished in the Napier Daily Telegraph [suggesting that the defence authorities propose to try Dr. l'hacker bv court-mar-tial because of the charges lie made at Tuesday's meeting, inquiries made by a Post reporter to-day show that the reports are wholly unfounded. The facts are (1) no application has been made to defence headquarters for a court-martial; (2) no question of holding a court-martial lias ever been considered: (3) no court-martial is in contemplation; and (4) no representative of the Defence Department was present at Dr. Thacker's meeting with the view of listening to the proceedings. Regarding the last published paragraph it is pointed out that it discloses a. very poor appreciation of military law. The fact is that there is nothing to prevent one officer, senior or otherwise, from listening to what is said by another officer. There therefore ca,ri he no courtmartial in connection with an incident of whieh the Defence Department is not aware.
