EGMONT NATIONAL PARK.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. A meeting of the members of the Egmont National Park Board was held in the Borough Council Chambers (Hawera) yesterday rooming, when there were present:' Messrs G. H. Bullard (chair), C. Goodson, Baily, Colli?, Tyke, Anderson, Dingle, R. McK. Morison, Hill, ami Crump. Leave of absence wsa granted to Messrs Percy-Smith and Garcia. The chairman reported that he and Mr. Bally had inspected the tracks on the mountain, and,, considering the very little that lir.d been done to them, they were in very fair order. Mr. Murphy had been authorised to spend £2O on tlip track between the Dawson Falls House and thp Northern House, and this was now in fairly good order and was being made good' use of by visitors. On the track from the house to Bell's Falls there were one or two bad places, and from Bell's Falls to Kahui the trackwanted attention in some places; in fact, in one or two bad places it had slipped entirely away. Thin work, however, had been lield over until the more important work on the tracks more generally used had been done. The chairman referred to a sub-leader that appeared in ft Tarsnakj paper inquiring if the board had power to'lease sections to private individuals to erect cottages thereon. The board had power to lease areas not exceeding two acres, subject to the approval of the Governor, but the r„;a,rd would have to seriously consider the advisability of doing so. If the board did leas» bjjilding areas to private individuals it could fljl'i.v lease section# clost* to tlie track, and it wouM ithen have -to consider imposing such rents as rt'Oltld MHitribute.to the upkeep of tlie track, and the questions of sanitation, water supply, firewood, dtp., would also require careful consideration, Furthermore. such private cottages an tllosp ' suggested would probably come into competition svith the present accommodation fiopse". Members gwrflly agreed with this | view, but as there upps no application before the board no resolution was passed. | COMMITTEES. ' ' ' j flifl committees for the forthcoming year wore appointed as follow: North (remain as at present) ; South, Messrs Goodson, Tonh's, Crump OBOJihers of the board), and Law; East, Messrs Mfil'isor., Masters.
