AWARDS OF THE V.C.
SjIVW CANADIANS IN LIST. London, Jan. 11. Seven Canadians have been awarded the Victoria Cross. They include Lieutenant 0. J'. O'Kelly, whose company advanced a thousand yards without n barrage and captured six pill-boxes, 100 prisoners, and 10 machine-guns. Sergeant JMullin, another Canadian, crawled to the top of a pill-box and shot two machine-gunners with a revolver. Though his clothes were riddled with bullets, he never faltered. Other Canadians rushed machine-gun posts, and killed or captured the gun crews. Lieutenant Robert Gee, of the Royal Fusiliers, another recipient of the coveted medal, was taken prisoner when the enemy pierced our line and captured a brigade headquarters and an ammunition dump. Gee killed bis guard with a spiked stick. He escaped and organised a party from the brigade staff, who attacked the enemy fiercely, and finally 'established a defensive Rank on the outskirts of the village. When he found an enemy machine gun in action, with -,i revolver in each hand, and followed by one man, he rushed the gun. killing eight of the gun crew. Though wounded he refused to have the wound dressed until the defence had been organised. Lance-Corporal McP.eath. of the Seaforth Highlanders, who has also heen awarded the Victoria Cross, with the assistance of a tank rushed five machineguns, and drove the gunners to a deen dug-out, where Mcßeath, regardless cf the danger, followed, capturing 33 Germans By this means he enabled two British units to advance.
