SITUATION INCREASINGLY SERIOUS
GOVERNMENT ASSURANCES > UNAVAILING. PRESS COMMENTS Received Jan, 23, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 22. The Daily Chronicle's Amsterdam correspondent states that the latest reports from Vienna describe the situation as one of increasing seriousness, and indicate that the workers are disregarding the leaders' advice. If the report of Dr. Seizler's resignation is confirmed it is clear the Government's assurances have not cleared the situation. The Daily News' Rotterdam correspondent states that Austria-Hungary is fast hurrying to a crisis. Large masses of the population are in a state of incipient revolt against Germanic domination. Tliev believo the dictation of tlie German annexationists at Brest Litovsk is defeating the chances of peace.
