ELTHAM.

(From Oiir Own Correspondent.) Eltliam, Jan. 22. 'Twas a happy party that assembled at Mr. S. H. Death's barn last week, when a social was tendered to Private B. Ila veil. He is up on leave, and the residents resolved to show their appreciation of young Flavell and his parents by rolling up in strong numbers. Mr. A. L Campbell mentioned that the guest of the evening was the third son to don khaki in defence of the Empire. The writer of these lines knows Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Flavell very well, and, with others, hopes that all will go well with the departing soldier and his brothers. A wristlet watch was given as a memento, and the wish was expressed that he would have a good passage over and return safe and sound. Miss Dale presided at the piano for the dance, whilst extras were contributed by Mrs. Campbell and Miss Babbage. Miss Chilburgh contributed t%vo enjoyable songs, j Mi. J. L. .Weir presided at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last night. Chief interest centred on an address on "Eltliam in the Early Days," during which Mr. Parrott gave some interesting and humorous details of how he found things here 25 years ago. At the close of t'he address Mr. Buekeridge moved a hearty vote of thanks, and supplemented Mr. Parrott's remarks by some reminiscences of bis own experiences in the days when Eltliam was in the village stage.
